Elaine Norinsky Memorial Scholarship
The Elaine Norinsky Memorial Scholarship was established in 2022 by her friends and family. Margaret Elaine Norinsky (Hadley), a long time resident of Vallejo, CA passed away on July 21, 2021 at the age of 93. She was born on January 24, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA. Starting her career in New York City after attending Harlem Hospital School of Nursing, she worked as a registered nurse in hospitals and as a visiting nurse in Brooklyn, NY and in Berkeley, CA. She went on to earn her B.S. and M.S. degrees at UCSF and eventually attended USF to earn her doctorate. Dr. Norinsky taught for many years at Solano Community College and went on to become Dean of Health Occupations.
Dr. Norinsky believed in the importance of giving back to the community. She often talked about attending the March on Washington in 1963 and watching Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. give his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. In more recent years, she provided service to the Girl Scouts, was a member of the SCC Scholarship Foundation Board and the National Women’s Political Caucus, and served on the First Five Commission.
