Jane H. Ford English Scholarship
Jane Ford was a longtime Vallejo educator and active participant in Vallejo?s civic and cultural affairs. She taught English at Vallejo High School from 1948 to 1964 and at Solano Community College from 1964 until retiring in 1977.
A native of Topeka, Indiana, Jane Ford lived in Vallejo from 1946 until her death in 1990. She graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan and from San Francisco State University. She did graduate work at Wayne University in Detroit and at the University of California at Berkeley.
Jane Ford served on the Vallejo Library Commission and on the Solano County Library Board. She was a member of the California Council of Teachers of English, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Vallejo Symphony League, the Vallejo College Woman?s Club, American Association of University Women, and the League of Women Voters. She was also a cofounder of the Museum Bookstore and Gift Shop in the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum.
She traveled extensively, visiting more than 70 countries, including two visits to the U.S.S.R. and three visits to the Peoples? Republic of China.
Jane was married to Robert D. Ford and had two daughters, Sarah Jane Ford and Susan F. Kirk. The Jane H. Ford Memorial Scholarship was established in 1990 by family and friends to honor her memory.
