SUDIE M. SMITH FOUNDATION INC. SCHOLARSHIP FOR IMANI SISTERHOOD PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

Sudie M. Smith was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In her early years she endured the challenges of the Great Depression and segregation. Despite facing social injustices as a woman and an African American, she persevered, improving her circumstances and providing a better life for her family.
Actively involved in the Fairfield and Suisun communities, Sudie contributed to organizations like the Boy Scouts, Little League Boosters, and the PTA. Her passion for cooking for her extensive family led her to join the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Food Services department in 1965, primarily serving at Armijo High School until her retirement after 24 years of dedicated service.
Following her 70th birthday, health issues arose, requiring full-time care beyond what could be provided at home. Dedicated healthcare professionals supported Sudie through her recovery, highlighting the importance of long-term healthcare, especially for seniors.
Sudie M. Smith instilled in her family values of resilience, dedication, and caring for others’ well-being. In 1997, her family established a scholarship in her memory, awarded to an Armijo High School student pursuing a career in healthcare. In 2017, the Sudie M. Smith Foundation, Inc. was founded to commemorate her legacy by continuing and expanding the scholarship.
