Peter W. Orr Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Gary and Nancy Coelho, on behalf of the Nourot-Orr Revocable Trust. Peter Orr was born in San Francisco and raised in Vacaville, with a brief detour to King City, CA., to Martha (Shutts) and William Farnsworth Orr. He attended Elm School and upon returning to Vacaville from King City, attended Hemlock and Alamo Schools, and continued on to Willis Jepson Middle School. At Vacaville High, he was an active member of the Swim Team. He always stated that the best part of being on the swim team was swimming with all the neighborhood kids, known as “The Peach Tree Gang”.
Peter attended Solano College, taking welding and machine shop classes, before joining the US Air Force for six years, stationed at Travis Air Force Base. After his tour at Travis, Peter became a millwright and was a proud member of the Millwright Local 102 for 15 years before deciding that he wanted to reduce his traveling and stay closer to home to be with the amazing love of his life, Mary Nourot. Peter then worked for the Vacaville School District for 24 years as an electrician before retiring.
Peter and Mary had a life of travel, hobbies and socializing with their many friends and family. He was an avid gardener, an avid Oakland A’s fan, a fixer of all things mechanical, hiker, a lover of stray cats, and could often be found spending time at Pacific Hardware talking with locals and friends. After retiring he was best known for sitting on his front porch doling out maintenance and life advice.
