Gloria Green Wellington Award

Gloria Green was born and raised in a small town in northeastern Ohio. After high school graduation her interest in a nursing career grew as she worked as an aide in the local hospital. Gloria enrolled in the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus Ohio in 1946 and was graduated in 1949. She continued her nursing education at Catholic University in Washington D.C. After marriage to husband William Wellington, the couple raised six children.

This award was established by Gloria’s brother, Richard Green, to commemorate her 60th wedding anniversary in July 2011. Richard Green has been a long time advocate and supporter of nurses and the Solano nursing program. He was a faculty member at Solano Community College from 1966 to 1993, and his wife, Carolyn Anne Green, was a nursing instructor at Solano Community College. Mr. Green’s daughter and mother were also nurses.
